July 18 Meeting: The Art of Breastfeeding

La Leche League's comprehensive guide to nursing your baby is titled The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding for good reason—breastfeeding truly is an art. The breastfeeding relationship is influenced by the unique personalities of each mother and each baby, and it changes as the baby grows.

La Leche League meetings are the ideal place to learn that art, offering both factual information and the personal insights of experienced nursing mothers. If you are nursing your baby, planning to nurse your baby, or just generally interested in learning more about this womanly art, please join us in the Hospitality Center of the First Presbyterian Church in Haddonfield on Monday, November 21 at 7:30 pm.
If you can't attend the meeting or you need to talk to someone before then, please call one of the group Leaders listed at the bottom of this page.

Women who are pregnant, nursing, or just interested in learning more about breastfeeding are invited to join us:
Monday, July 18 at 7:30 pm
Hospitality Center of the First Presbyterian Church
20 Kings Highway East, Haddonfield
Babies are always welcome at our meetings, and there is no charge to attend. Park in the lot behind the church (enter on Chestnut Street), enter through the door by the playground and go downstairs to the Hospitality Center.

Download our meeting schedule for information on all of our 2016 monthly meetings.

What is a La Leche League Meeting?

Share the joys of nursing with other mothers. We offer mother-to-mother support and encouragement as well as providing proven information on breastfeeding, and a forum for exchanging ideas on parenting the nursing baby. Browse through our lending library of books covering topics such as pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, nutrition, and parenting.

La Leche League Philosophy

The basic philosophy of La Leche League is summarized in the following statements:

· Mothering through breastfeeding is the most natural and effective way of understanding and satisfying the needs of the baby.

· Mother and baby need to be together early and often to establish a satisfying relationship and an adequate milk supply.

· In the early years the baby has an intense need to be with his mother, which is as basic as his need for food.

· Breast milk is the superior infant food.

· For the healthy, full-term baby, breast milk is the only food necessary until the baby shows signs of needing solids, about the middle of the first year after birth.

· Ideally the breastfeeding relationship will continue until the baby outgrows the need.

· Alert and active participation by the mother in childbirth is a help in getting breastfeeding off to a good start.

· Breastfeeding is enhanced and the nursing couple sustained by the loving support, help, and companionship of the baby's father. A father's unique relationship with his baby is an important element in the child's development from early infancy.

· Good nutrition means eating a well-balanced and varied diet of foods in as close to their natural state as possible.

· From infancy on, children need loving guidance which reflects acceptance of their capabilities and sensitivity to their feelings.
