October 16 Meeting: At Home with Your New Baby

New mothers receive all kinds of advice about parenting and breastfeeding, from relatives, friends, and medical professionals. While well-intentioned, all this advice can be confusing and overwhelming for the mother who is learning the art of breastfeeding.

At the October meeting of La Leche League of Haddonfield, certified La Leche League Leaders and experienced nursing mothers will be on hand to answer your questions about breastfeeding and suggest strategies for getting off to a good start. We will focus on the special challenges and joys of the first few weeks at home with a new baby, but we welcome your questions about breastfeeding even if they don't fit this month's topic.

Women who are pregnant, nursing, or just interested in learning more about breastfeeding are invited to join us.
Monday, October 16 at 7:30 pm
Hospitality Center of the First Presbyterian Church
20 Kings Highway East, Haddonfield
Babies are always welcome at our meetings, and there is no charge to attend. Park in the lot behind the church (enter on Chestnut Street), enter through either side door, and go downstairs to the Hospitality Center.

Download our meeting schedule for information on our November and December 2017 meetings.

What is a La Leche League Meeting?

Share the joys of nursing with other mothers. We offer mother-to-mother support and encouragement as well as providing proven information on breastfeeding, and a forum for exchanging ideas on parenting the nursing baby. Browse through our lending library of books covering topics such as pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, nutrition, and parenting.

La Leche League Philosophy

The basic philosophy of La Leche League is summarized in the following statements:

· Mothering through breastfeeding is the most natural and effective way of understanding and satisfying the needs of the baby.

· Mother and baby need to be together early and often to establish a satisfying relationship and an adequate milk supply.

· In the early years the baby has an intense need to be with his mother, which is as basic as his need for food.

· Breast milk is the superior infant food.

· For the healthy, full-term baby, breast milk is the only food necessary until the baby shows signs of needing solids, about the middle of the first year after birth.

· Ideally the breastfeeding relationship will continue until the baby outgrows the need.

· Alert and active participation by the mother in childbirth is a help in getting breastfeeding off to a good start.

· Breastfeeding is enhanced and the nursing couple sustained by the loving support, help, and companionship of the baby's father. A father's unique relationship with his baby is an important element in the child's development from early infancy.

· Good nutrition means eating a well-balanced and varied diet of foods in as close to their natural state as possible.

· From infancy on, children need loving guidance which reflects acceptance of their capabilities and sensitivity to their feelings.
