Upcoming Meetings: October 15 and November 19

October 15: At Home with Your New Baby
When a new baby joins the family, everything changes. Everyone in the family has a new role to play, and the nursing mother and nursing baby are both learning new skills. La Leche League's October meeting focuses on getting started with breastfeeding: what to expect, what is normal, and what can help the process go more smoothly.

November 19: Overcoming Breastfeeding Difficulties
Breastfeeding usually comes naturally following an uncomplicated birth, but it can take a bit of time and patience before both mother and baby are comfortable with the process. At our November meeting we will discuss some of the common challenges that new breastfeeding mothers may encounter.

Women who are pregnant, nursing, or just interested in learning more about breastfeeding are invited to join us.
Hospitality Center of the First Presbyterian Church
20 Kings Highway East
Haddonfield, NJ

Babies are always welcome, and there is no charge to attend. Park in the lot behind the church (enter on Chestnut Street), enter through either side door, and go downstairs to the Hospitality Center.

What is a La Leche League Meeting?

Share the joys of nursing with other mothers. We offer mother-to-mother support and encouragement as well as providing proven information on breastfeeding, and a forum for exchanging ideas on parenting the nursing baby. Browse through our lending library of books covering topics such as pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, nutrition, and parenting.

La Leche League Philosophy

The basic philosophy of La Leche League is summarized in the following statements:

· Mothering through breastfeeding is the most natural and effective way of understanding and satisfying the needs of the baby.

· Mother and baby need to be together early and often to establish a satisfying relationship and an adequate milk supply.

· In the early years the baby has an intense need to be with his mother, which is as basic as his need for food.

· Breast milk is the superior infant food.

· For the healthy, full-term baby, breast milk is the only food necessary until the baby shows signs of needing solids, about the middle of the first year after birth.

· Ideally the breastfeeding relationship will continue until the baby outgrows the need.

· Alert and active participation by the mother in childbirth is a help in getting breastfeeding off to a good start.

· Breastfeeding is enhanced and the nursing couple sustained by the loving support, help, and companionship of the baby's father. A father's unique relationship with his baby is an important element in the child's development from early infancy.

· Good nutrition means eating a well-balanced and varied diet of foods in as close to their natural state as possible.

· From infancy on, children need loving guidance which reflects acceptance of their capabilities and sensitivity to their feelings.
